Hyderabadi Khichadi is a very traditional meal in Hyderabadi cuisine, made with rice and masoor dal, added with some aromatic spices to make an easily digestible and filling dish.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup masoor dal
- 1 cup Rice
- 1 tea spoon ginger garlic paste
- Salt to taste
- 1 medium onion
- 3 Green chilies
- 3 Cardamom
- 5 Pepper Corns
- 3 Cloves
- 2 small cinnamon stick
- 2 bay leaves
- Water as required
- 1 tbsp Mint leaves chopped
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 2 tbsp yogurt
INSTRUCTIONS
- Soak the rice and masoor dal, in separate bowls for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan, add bay leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, pepper, roast it.
- Then add green chilies, sliced onions, salt, turmeric, ginger garlic paste and cook this till raw flavor is gone.
- Then add curd (optional), rice, masoor dal, water, chopped mint and coriander leavesand cook it with closed lid till rice is done.
- At last, add ghee on top of the rice and put the lid on for few minutes.
